Feature Naming

Problem Statement

Before having dedicated UX Writers in the team, feature names in Candy Crush Saga were usually coined by the Game Designer and voted on by the development team. This often

resulted in names that reflected popularity rather than the essence of the

feature.

My role as Content Designer

- Establish a clear naming process with the Game Designer as key stakeholder,

ensuring alignment with gameplay goals.

- Partner with Narrative Design to create names that are both fun and

meaningful, making it easier for players to understand new features.

- Incorporate development team feedback to make informed naming

decisions, fostering collaboration and stronger team buy-in.

Solution

- Align with Game Designers on communication goals, then collaborate with Narrative Design to establish clear keywords that anchor the naming process.

- Generate multiple naming candidates with strong rationale, ensuring each option reflects the feature’s purpose and player experience.

- Collect and integrate feedback to make an informed final decision.

Impact

The new process which is UX Writing-led resulted in names that are clear, consistent, and player-focused.
